While
the developed countries of the world are far ahead in terms of internet speed,
the underdeveloped and developing countries are still far behind in terms of
internet speed. Internet speed is still available on the KBps scale in these
countries. The speed of the MBps scale is not usually found. But Elon Musk's
Starlink project has now taken the initiative to bring equal speed internet to
everyone. Even sitting in a remote village in an underdeveloped country, you
can get the same speed internet in New York City.
There don't seem to be people interested in science and space but haven't heard of Elon Musk. Elon Musk has taken a new initiative to reduce the inequality and misery of the world's Internet speed. Whose name is the "Starlink" project?
What is Starlink?
Starlink
is an artificial satellite internet technology under construction by Elon
Musk's space agency SpaceX to provide satellite internet access. This is a
project that will use about 12,000 satellites. However, these satellites will
be low-orbit satellites. Many companies now provide services using
geostationary satellites.
Geostationary satellites orbit the earth from a fixed position about 35,600 km above the earth's surface. But these low-orbit satellites of Starlink will be only 500-1,000 kilometers above. As a result, the coverage area is less but the speed is much higher. A large number of satellites have also been proposed to address the problem of coverage area.
The purpose of Sterling
The main purpose of Starlink is global connectivity. At the same time ensuring high-speed, low-latency, next-level internet connectivity is one of its main goals. As a result, Starlink will compete directly with existing optical fiber connectivity.
The benefits of Starlink
These Sterling satellites will cover the whole earth like a net and as a result, you will get almost the same speed as a developed country from inside any jungle. It will provide high-speed and low latency services. High-speed means how fast data is being exchanged.
What is low latency?
Low latency is a measure of how long it takes for one device to respond to another. Suppose you are playing a game of gula with one of your friends. Your internet speed is much faster and latency is also higher. So you fired as soon as you saw your enemy but it will take some time for your firing instruction to reach the server and get the response from the server. And in the middle of this time may be your enemy will move and shoot you! By doing this you will lose the winning game. You lost because of this excess latency! That is why latency is important.
That's the way it will work
Currently, geostationary satellites are used which are far away. It takes a relatively long time for signals to come and go for distance. This reduces network speed and increases latency. The satellite's proximity to this Starlink project will send signals faster, resulting in increased network speeds and reduced latency. Another thing is that optical fiber is used in geostationary. This reduces the speed of light in these cables. On the other hand, this sterling will use laser light and air medium, so the speed will not be reduced like geo-stationery. It will also increase the speed of data transfer as the light can travel at full speed.
Limitations of Starlink
With
so many satellites orbiting the sky, astronomers could have problems observing
them. There may be problems transmitting radio signals. But Elon Musk's SpaceX
says they're working on it.
The sooner it is implemented, the sooner you will get the same speed as any other part of the world. It is expected that you will get the rate of Tokyo, the capital of Japan, even if you stay in Bangladesh.
Starlink in Bangladesh
Elon
Musk's Starlink is going to bring Bangladesh under its service. The company has
already started taking pre-orders for routers with antennas from Bangladesh. It
is expected that they will be able to launch the service here in 2023. Anyone
can order with a 99 deposit. Since there are some approval issues in
Bangladesh, in case they do not launch the service later, the customer will get
back the full amount of the deposit, according to the Sterling website.
